Excluding the supply cost for making the pendants, ODON will send half of the donations to UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) and the other half to World Vision. UNICEF is dedicated to providing the North Korean citizens, especially the women and children, with adequate health services, water and sanitation, and primary and early childhood education. With UNICEF’s aid, the polio immunization coverage reached over 90% in 1997 and a successful measles campaign was held in 1999 with the additional support of the WHO (World Health Organization).
Currently, World Vision is focused on hunger, providing relief through agricultural programs. Previously – between 1995 and 1997 – World Vision provided $5.5 million worth of food, medicines, agricultural supplies, and clothing to assist North Korea with its ongoing famine.
